 Reebok Pro-Israel Sneaker Shot Down

The sportswear manufacturer Reebok had planned to offer a special-edition running shoe to commemorate Israel’s 68th birthday, but then quickly retracted in the face of Palestinian pressure.

A blue-and-white sneaker embossed with “Israel 68” was proposed by an independent designer and was to be sold as a collector’s item in Israel and internationally.

Reebok, however, claims the idea was never officially accepted. “Reebok would like to distance itself from the shoe,” said a company statement. “The shoe was a one-off initiative from one of our partners. We do not support this initiative.”

Initial reports said that the shoe would be sold on Israel’s Independence Day with proceeds going to Crossfit Without Borders, a group supporting people with mental disabilities. This led to a Palestinian outcry online calling for a boycott of Reebok products.
