Gili is an ordinary Israeli. She is also my niece, or else I would have never known about her decision to become an ex-Jew, which is the reason for this interview.

Gili’s choice derives from the mounting anxiety in many Israeli families impacted by the growing political divide. In many cases, there remains only a thin veneer of civility that still holds such families together. Anecdotal as Gili’s case may be, she nevertheless represents something real. Extreme as she herself may be, her overall ideas resonate with a lot of leftists.
