Israel has now been embroiled in a war for four months that began with an unprecedented and barbaric attack on the south of the country, and which initially appeared to have a purely local character.

It was Hamas against Israel again, so people thought, and that is still the way it is viewed in circles outside Israel. But recent developments in this war show that this is a regional conflict that now clearly has the potential to become a war with global proportions.
