Jared, a chef in New York City, was applauded around the world for a simple act of courage.

On his way home from work on the subway one evening, passengers were greeted with messages like, “Send Jews to the ovens” and “Heil Hitler” spread over the entire cabin.

One passenger described the scene on his Facebook page like this: “I got on the subway in Manhattan tonight and found a swastika on every advertisement and every window. The train was silent as everyone stared at each other, uncomfortable and unsure what to do.”

As Jared took a picture of the hate graffiti, a woman said, “This is terrible. Could you possibly do something to remove it?” Jared told her that it was not easy because the vandals had used a waterproof permanent marker. But then he had an idea, and standing up, asked passengers, “Does anyone have hand sanitizer?”

Passengers rummaged through their bags and some had the alcohol-based solutions. Jared started cleaning up the car, and more and more...
