Their task is to develop applications that provide soldiers in the field with the information they need in real-time. One app, for example, enables commanders to find the most secure route for their troops. To accomplish this, the app analyzes video footage from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, flying over the area.
Four hundred soldiers serve in this new unit, which was formed in 2014. Most of them are programmers, software developers and graduates of study programs in computer sciences.
The products developed by the unit vastly increase security on the borders and enable more efficient ground maneuvers. The new systems rely on the amalgamation of information, image data processing and the use of artificial intelligence. In the blink of an eye, these systems collect, process and analyze data from various sources, including drones, wiretaps, tracking sensors and even social network chatter.
