DRONE DOME: Israel’s New UAV Defense System
Drones and UAVs have become a major security challenge for Israel, which has in turn found innovative new solutions
Drones the size of a mobile telephone can be seen streaming across the skies of Israel as the new technology makes it possible for just about anyone to put a flying camera, or weapon, to flight over a secret military installation or strategic army deployments.
Hostile drones are one of today’s fastest growing threats worldwide, including drones flying near airports, endangering civilian flights and passengers’ lives.
The sheer number of drones readily available to friends or foes presents a new challenge to Israeli security forces to protect clandestine military installations from spy cameras, but also large civilian venues like football stadiums or government offices, where armed drones are able to deploy conventional or non-conventional weapons of mass destruction.
The challenge is to be able to detect and prevent the penetration of all these drones in the skies over vulnerable target areas, ensuring maximum security without preventing the recreational use of commercial drones in safe areas.
Meet the DRONE DOME, Israel’s new drone protection system developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems LTD. The advanced tactical defense system against Unmanned Ariel Vehicles (UAV’s) and hovercraft is capable of detecting, verifying and countering various aerial threats.
A cousin to Israel’s highly successful IRON DOME, the DRONE DOME now operational in Israel is poised to become the worldwide leader in military and civilian defense systems against the growing threat of hostile drones and UAV’s.
