The findings are in. A whopping 90 percent of Israelis eat hummus, the classic Mideast chickpea paste, at least once a week. A survey by the Geocartography Institute revealed that 70 percent keep hummus in the fridge.
Five percent of those interviewed report eating hummus at least six times a week. Even though gourmets criticize the mass-produced versions, 60 percent of the population buys the dip at the grocery store. Some 15 percent eat it at their favorite restaurant and 13 percent take the time-consuming option of making their own.
Even though hummus is loved by Israelis and Arabs alike, only 9 percent view the popular spread as promoting coexistence.
