MembersIDF captures Crusader castle in Lebanon — and why that matters

Beaufort is not just ancient stone. It is high ground over the Litani, the Galilee, and Hezbollah’s southern war machine.

The Israel Defense Forces’ capture of Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon is more than a symbolic photograph on a Crusader-era wall.

Israel has taken one of the most commanding pieces of terrain in the area — a fortress ridge overlooking the Litani River, with visibility across wide stretches of southern Lebanon and toward northern Israel. The Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem called the move one of Israel’s most significant achievements in the war against Hezbollah, saying IDF troops raised the Israeli flag over the site and expanded control over areas previously used by the Iranian-backed terror militia.
