
The new iPhone X recently announced by Apple is full of technological advancements, chief among them an innovative facial recognition system. A special camera scans the face of the user. If it is the legitimate owner, the iPhone is automatically unlocked.
The incredibly complex system behind this facial recognition was largely developed at Apple’s research and development center in the Israeli coastal town of Herzliya. The Israeli lab is well-known for routinely producing new innovations for Apple products.
The technology for facial recognition is also used in the much-anticipated new emoji functionality that enables these cute little symbols to actually mimic the facial expressions of the user. Much of the software behind this new ability to individualize one’s emojis was also developed in Israel.
