Israelis in Cyprus accused of rape – but not all Israelis are Jews

The initial allegations of a British woman raped by Israelis in Cyprus left out a small, but important detail.

Last week it was reported that six Israelis had been accused of raping a British woman in Cyprus. A similar accusation was made by another British woman in Cyprus in 2019, but she was herself later charged for misleading police. That woman has since challenged this decision by the Cypriot court and to this day it is not entirely clear what really happened.

But this latest allegation of rape has different twist. The initial report again shocked Israel, and was almost eagerly reported ad nauseam by the mainstream media and a chorus of voices on social media.

Jew-haters jumped all over the news, which provided them a golden opportunity to state clearly what they think about Jews for once. The social media platform formerly known as Twitter was inundated with hateful posts. There was a palpable sense of joy that the Jews had finally been caught and that their “true face” was coming to light. Here are just a few examples of the tweets:

  • “Six Israelis arrested in another suspected gang rape in Cyprus – Crime in Israel – The Jerusalem Post. JEWS RAPIN WHITE WOMEN FOR JEWISH SPORT!!!!!”
  • “Why do Israelis like to rape English women in Cyprus?”
  • “Israelis can be aggressive and dangerous in packs!”

However, it soon emerged that the young men accused of rape were Israeli, but came from the Arab village of Majd al-Krum. So these are Arab Israelis. The antisemitic Twitter community had gotten worked up in vain, and most mainstream media suddenly stopped reporting about the incident.

That this story became a non-story the moment everyone discovered that the accused were Arabs again confirmed what we all already knew about the mainstream media: If no Jews can be blamed, it’s not newsworthy.
