Heads of the Jewish settlements in Samaria held a public gathering on Sunday urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to immediately impose Israeli sovereignty over the biblical heartland.

A video clip produced by the group that has since gone viral on Israeli social media calls on Netanyahu to follow in the footsteps of former Prime Minister Menachem Begin.

“Bibi – become Begin” points out that Begin annexed the Golan Heights even though America opposed the move. The settler leaders want Netanyahu to do the same, even if the Trump Administration is opposed to the timing of the move.

“This is a historic hour,” said Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan. “And we expect the prime minister to relate to it as such, to demonstrate the kind of leadership that Begin demonstrated, and which we know he has in him. Impose sovereignty now. There will never be a more opportune time politically.”

While Dagan called Trump a genuinely pro-Israel president, he acknowledged that the White House could oppose a unilateral annexation by Israel.

But, he insisted, that shouldn’t matter, because Israel’s Christian friends will support the move.

“Even if the president doesn’t agree with Netanyahu’s annexation, he certainly won’t fight it in an election year, knowing that Evangelical Christians are his base of power,” explained Dagan.
