The race is on for the outgoing Biden Administration to score a diplomatic win by securing the release of Israeli hostages and ending the war in Gaza, and that means pressuring Israel to “compromise.”
After the events of October 7, 2023, most Israelis are no longer in a mood to compromise, and now recognize that word used in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a euphemism for surrender.
Amid talk of a looming “breakthrough” in hostage-ceasefire talks in Doha, Qatar, two organizations representing the families of Israeli hostages and of fallen soldiers called for an emergency demonstration to demand the government not make another catastrophic mistake.
“You do not have a mandate to surrender to Hamas!” read the call to action posted to social media by the Tikva Forum (for families of hostages) and the Gvura Forum (for families of fallen soldiers).
The demonstration is scheduled to start Monday evening at the Gvura Forum’s public advocacy tent near the Knesset with protesters then marching to the entrance of Jerusalem.
While both groups, like the vast majority of Israelis, see the liberation of the hostages as the loftiest goal in this war, they insist it must be accomplished through strength and victory, not compromise with a defeated enemy. To do otherwise would set the stage for the next “Oct. 7” by signaling to Hamas and other terror groups that there is still something to be gained by slaughtering and abducting Israelis.
While current negotiations in Doha are taking place behind closed doors, leaked details suggest the deal on the table would see hostages slowly released over the course of months (and many of them in body bags), during which time Israel would withdraw its forces from key positions like the Philadelphi Corridor and the Neztarim Corridor.
The Philadelphi Corridor is “Hamas’s lifeline, connecting Gaza to Egypt, their route to acquire weapons and ammunition, and smuggle the remaining hostages out through Egypt,” explained the Tikva Forum on its website.
Additionally, Israel is expected to free thousands of jailed Palestinian terrorists in return for the hostages, both dead and alive. “Anyone who studies recent history knows that they will return to their terrorist activity,” noted the Tikva Forum.
So are these groups against a hostage deal?
“Absolutely not!” stressed the Tikva Forum. “But the current proposal is reckless and irresponsible, removing Israel’s military and strategic pressure from Hamas while leaving most of the hostages behind.”
The people are right, don’t give an inch as the terrorists still want everything in their favour!
