Ofra Haza was an internationally-recognized singer who was nominated for the Grammy Award, among many other prizes.

She died at the age of 42, at the peak of her career. The exact circumstances of her death are still unknown, though immaterial to our focus here. Haza’s hit song “Prayer” (“Tefilla”) became an anthem of prayer and hope, a song in which we expressed our need for God’s protection.

It is a song in which we ask for the basic things that keep us safe and bring joy to our lives, a song in which we ask for that which connects us to the eternal. When we stand before the Creator, it does not matter how old we are. In these moments we are all as children, as those who need protection. Real protection will only come from above.
