The fast train line between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem has almost been completed.

The German company Siemens has won the contract to build 330 rail cars for the new railway lines in Israel. The contract is worth 3.8 billion shekels (around one billion US dollars). The company is still awaiting approval from the Israel Finance Ministry. The contract stipulates that Israel is purchasing sets of 60 electrical trains that in all will provide 33,000 passenger seats. In addition, Siemens will build a maintenance depot in the coastal city of Ashkelon.

The rail cars will be delivered by Siemens beginning in 2020 over a period of five years. They will be double-decker cars, electrically powered, and available for use on the new line being constructed between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
