MembersMust Israel first break apart to become whole again?

Those who look at our country see above all a divided people. Secular and religious people speak less and less the same language.

The right and the left seem to no longer inhabit the same political reality. Everyone is seemingly convinced that the side they do not belong to is about to destroy the country. Could Israel’s deep division be part of a necessary preparation? A pattern runs throughout the Bible showing that God does not allow a person to receive a calling in comfort.

Often the path leads through the very opposite of what was promised. Abraham, though childless, is to become the father of a great nation. Joseph is to rule Egypt and save his family, yet his journey begins in a pit. Moses is to lead Israel out of Egypt, but initially fails against Pharaoh. When David is anointed, he receives not the crown but Goliath, followed by his time under Saul and years as a fugitive. Gideon is to save Israel, but God shrinks his army from 32,000 to a mere 300 men. Elijah experiences triumph on Mount Carmel, only to find himself weary of life in the wilderness shortly afterward.

Must a people also perhaps pass through...
