The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are responsible for the defense and protection of the State of Israel and its citizens. And these days those in the most need of protection are Israel’s elderly, who are most vulnerable to the coronavirus pandemic. As such, Israeli soldiers have taken on a new mission: distribute food, medicine and other essentials to these isolated people, and provide them as much care as possible.
Some one million elderly Israelis are isolated with little means to care for themselves without becoming exposed to the coronavirus. And that makes the IDF’s new mission easily as critical as it’s missions on the battlefield.
Around 1,000 Israeli soldiers from the Home Front Command are now helping to protect the elderly in their homes. From preparing the packages to going door-to-door and distributing both needed goods and needed love, it is a very emotional mission.
