He was fifteen or sixteen, filmed in the rubble of Gaza with an anti-tank rocket almost as long as he was tall. His name was Suhaib Abu Labad, and after he was killed, that same footage was folded into a Hamas martyr video celebrating him as a fighter.
Yet his name also appears on the Gaza Health Ministry’s list of the dead — counted among the children killed by Israel, the toll the world uses to condemn it.
Suhaib is not alone. For years, monitors including the United Nations have documented armed groups in Gaza recruiting minors, while Hamas runs youth camps that put teenagers through live weapons training.
Handing a child a rocket launcher is not resistance; it is a war crime. And when that same child is then counted only as a civilian victim, the numbers stop telling the truth.
