Where is love?

A beautiful old blues song has been playing in my car for a long time now.

Only recently did I actually listen to the lyrics, and they amazed me with their depth. The song talks about searching for the meaning of love.

What is love?  Where can it be found?

Maybe it is understanding? Maybe peace of mind? Maybe it’s the feeling of soul satisfaction? Or maybe kindness?

The singer describes a hermit who told him that in order to discover the answer to this question, each and every person must go out into the world and discover for ourselves the essence of this longed-for and sublime emotion called love.

The search can last a long time and in many different places. Some say they found it in a relationship with their spouse. Others will say it is in the family unit. Some will find it in churches or synagogues. Some will find it in abundance. And others will say that their work is what fills them with this wonderful emotion. But the more we look at these things mentioned above, we will realize that these are all external sources, and once they are gone there is a great chance that we will lose this important feeling that keeps us connected to life. The conclusion of the song is that true love is found in finding the truth. Love is truth!

The singer also mentions that in our world there are so many lies and fakes that are the opposite of love. Because a lie is empty and purposeless. Love is found in truth, an inner truth; and finding the truth will connect us to the sublime feeling. This conclusion immediately takes me to two wonderful verses in the Bible through which I understand how to find and connect with love.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your strength.”

This verse is part of the Shema reading which is recited in Judaism every day as part of the daily prayer. These powerful words convey Moses’ strong message both to his audience and to future generations.

Being filled with intense love for God! How can we reach such intense love?

The answer is: “Hear O Israel, the LORD, our God, the LORD is one!

Shema means “listen.” Listening is an internal action. Listen every day to the love inside. Even if you didn’t dare to feel it because of everyday worries, even if you were tempted by other things; you will always be able to go back and listen. As soon as we can experience this listening, it brings us connection and harmony. We will be able to connect to love and give it an adequate expression in our lives in all the areas we choose: relationships, family, career, etc…

When we feel love we can enjoy all its gifts: kindness, joy, healing, trust, rescue and correction.

But mostly we enjoy the main gift that love brings with it which is more love. Because this is the essence of love. It multiplies itself. It has a multitude of ripples that increase the circles of love. And believe me, no one has been damaged by excess love. Once we connect to this essence we can love God with all our heart and soul. Because love is the embodiment of God. And God is the truth.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

  1. Disciple 1978 says:

Listening to a message by Jonathon Cahn called Zara, which means seed, we realise that our words determine our life. Love is a seed that you can sow into every area of your life whether work, relationship or religion. Love is spoken from a heart of truth. It has a dynamic beyond the literal. Love is a spiritual empowerment of the word to create a particular effect. To fill your heart with truth means to fill your heart with the truth of God’s word. God said, “I AM the way the truth and the life,” (John 14:6) so until we are able to operate our life in accordance with his word we will malfunction. He told us, by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. (Matt 12:37) Our words must produce deeds that are empowered by love. The lie, deception, falsehood and profane fall short of love. We should work at producing love in our hermit caves.

So beautifully said. Love can only truly exist when the God-given seed of love is planted, watered by the blood of Yeshua and allowed to grow.
