‘What is a woman?’ is a question that every female must determine for herself while growing up. There is much beauty to behold when a girl embarks on the journey to discover who she is in God.
The Bible does give us an example, describing a woman in Proverbs 31, who is esteemed by all.
Read her description, and she might remind you of that one annoying ‘super-mom’ with the perfect pilates body who is on the parents’ committee at school, and has a ‘honey, I’m home’ husband.
She seems perfect, but is she? Or is she responsible for causing countless women to feel unworthy to be called just that, “woman?”
Feminists might have a love-hate relationship with this seemingly outdated description; on the one hand, a savvy workaholic businesswoman; on the other, too tied to her identity as a wife and mother. Believers might feel crushed under what seems like an unrealistic expectation.
Perhaps, the Proverbs 31 woman is more misunderstood than not – on both secular and believing sides.
