Since the Second World War, the meaning of “victory in war” has changed from a positive to a negative value.

According to researchers, one of the reasons for the rise of Nazism and thus the outbreak of World War II was the humiliation of Germany after World War I. This gave rise to the theory that “victory in war” can be deceptive and that the solution to armed conflicts can only be found at the negotiating table. From biblical stories we learn that even back then Israel made political and tactical mistakes in war. In the conflict with Aram, which corresponds to Syria, Israel’s northern kingdom was simply too merciful. Israel had prevailed, but unnecessarily entered into an alliance with the enemy, despite the face that absolute victory was in Israel’s hands. The enemies were struck blind, similar to what happened recently in Lebanon, when the communication devices exploded in the faces of the terrorists. Israel must learn from the experiences of its biblical predecessors, and urgently.
