Among Israelis, Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza enjoys broad support; the problem is that Israel’s government and security apparatus are more skeptical. From their perspective, this plan is not realistic—only a few ministers, like Bezalel Smotrich and his colleague Itamar Ben-Gvir, think otherwise. But who decides what is realistic? Ben-Gvir? Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu? Egyptian President Abdel Fatteh Al-Sisi? Trump? Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid? The Europeans? Arabs? Me or you? Who? The rebirth of Israel that began over a hundred years ago was also not realistic, yet the biblical promise was fulfilled. The reunification of Jerusalem in 1967 was likewise a miracle and previously considered unattainable. But it happened during the Six-Day War. What is unrealistic and what is realistic often depends on us.
