What we are hearing today from the ruins of the Gaza Strip is far more than a classic plea for divine assistance. The people in Gaza are trapped between an external enemy and an internal leadership that has turned the suffering of its own people into political currency. Anyone who listens to the most recent prayers and cries for help on social networks and in the media is not only looking into the soul of the suffering but also recognizing an ancient, biblical pattern of despair that is now repeating itself among Israel’s enemies.
