The Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah has fired rockets at the greater Tel Aviv area for the first time since the ceasefire with Israel in November 2024. According to the Israeli military, several projectiles were launched from southern Lebanon toward central Israel overnight.

Air raid sirens sounded in parts of the Tel Aviv metropolitan region. Israel’s rocket defense system intercepted several of the projectiles. According to military reports, additional rocket remnants fell in open terrain. No major damage was initially reported.

The Magen David Adom rescue service reported that one man was injured when he ran to a shelter during the alarm in the city of Holon, south of Tel Aviv. He sustained a head injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

First rockets on central Israel since the ceasefire

The attack marks a significant escalation on the northern front. Since the US-mediated ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in November 2024, rocket attacks on central Israel had ceased.

Since the agreement took effect, the border between Israel and Lebanon has remained largely quiet. At the same time, the Israeli military has repeatedly conducted airstrikes against Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon to prevent, according to military sources, the militia from rebuilding its military capabilities.

Already in the night leading up to March 2, rockets and drones were fired from Lebanon toward northern Israel. Israel responded with airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including facilities in the Beirut area. The rocket barrage on the greater Tel Aviv area now represents a further escalation.

Israel strikes Hezbollah targets

Following the rocket fire on the greater Tel Aviv area, the Israel Defense Forces attacked Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. According to the military, the airstrikes targeted launch sites as well as other military infrastructure of the organization.

In parallel, the military increased its readiness along the northern border. The goal is to prevent further attacks on Israeli territory.

Hezbollah is considered the most important military proxy organization of Iran in the region and, according to Israeli estimates, possesses a large arsenal of rockets and drones.

With the rocket fire on the Tel Aviv area, the conflict along the Israeli-Lebanese border has reached a new level of escalation, as tensions across the entire Middle East continue to intensify.
