The speech by Argentine President Javier Milei was far more than a political declaration of solidarity with Israel. He spoke of Israel as the origin of a civilization, the source of its values, and the spiritual foundation of the Western world. In doing so, he touched upon an idea that already concerned the prophets of Israel: Jerusalem is not merely a city, and Israel is not merely a state.
For thousands of years, the Jewish people have stood at the center of conflicts that reach far beyond territorial disputes. Perhaps this explains why debates about Israel often take on an intensity experienced by no other country.
