Israel marked three years since October 7 this week. It was the first anniversary since the hostages came back.
By evening, the memorial had become a campaign event.
On the anniversary itself, Channel 12 aired an exposé built on what it said were previously unpublished portions of letters, documents and communications delivered to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu between March and September 2023 by senior defense officials, including then-IDF chief Herzi Halevi, then-defense minister Yoav Gallant and then-Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar.
According to the network, Netanyahu answered one of Halevi’s warning letters by blaming the anti-government protesters: “It’s not us. They should talk to those people [protesting] on Kaplan.” After all, Netanyahu had been democratically elected, and the protest movement was rather undemocratically calling for his removal. The question of who was responsible for this national weakening remains open.
