Weekly Reading – בְּרֵאשִׁית – Bereishit – In the Beginning; Genesis 1:1 – 6:8; Isaiah 42:5 – 43:10

What is the first light of creation, if the sun, moon and stars were not created until three days later? The Torah leaves this question open. Yet Isaiah leads us to a surprising answer: perhaps it is not only about a light that illuminates the world, but about a light that shows humanity the way — and about the darkness that begins when we lose that path.

The results of our survey on Telegram surprised me quite a bit. I had asked whether, after three years of writing about the weekly Torah portion, you would like to continue reading texts about the weekly portions, or whether I should devote myself to other topics in the future.
