VIDEO: Christmas Fair in Haifa

Celebrating the ‘Holiday of Holidays’ is a chance to promote tolerance, according to event organizers

Christmas is becoming increasingly popular in Israel, which is yet another sign that the centuries of bad blood between Jews and Christians is finally giving way to warmer relations.

The above video is from this year’s Christmas-time fair in the northern port city of Haifa.

The city is home to large Christian and Muslim minority communities, so organizers see Christmas-time and an opportunity to promote interfaith tolerance, given that it often coincides with Hanukkah and fall shortly after Ramadan.

Still, many Jews bristle at the notion of referring to a Christmas-themed event as the “Holiday of Holidays,” which puts the Christian holiday on a higher level than, say, Passover.
