Israel logged moderate, but stable economic growth in 2016. GDP rose by a respectable 3 percent, compared to 4 percent the previous year, but only 2.6 percent in 2015. At the same time, the national budget was reduced to its lowest level in a several years.
At the close of the year, Israel’s population stood at 8.793 million, an increase of 1.9 percent (or 165,000 citizens) in 2017. There are 6.56 million Jews living in the Holy Land, a 74.6 percent majority of the population, while the Arab population numbers 1.837 million (20.9 percent). Another 400,000 citizens (4.5 percent) are classified as “Other.” Experts estimate that Israel will exceed the nine million mark in the first quarter of 2018, and the 10 million mark in 2025.
In 2017, 180,000 children were born in Israel, and 44,000 deaths were recorded. Of the 37,000 new immigrants, 26,000 are Jewish. Among these immigrants, 13 percent came from France, 25.5...
