After 2,700 years of exile, more Indians claiming descent from the biblical Tribe of Menashe (typically translated in English as Manasseh) arrived in Israel in November of this year. The 162 Bnei Menashe joined another 102 who had made aliyah earlier in the year. The Tribe of Menashe was deported from the land by the Assyrians in the 8th century BC. After being officially recognized in 2005 as one of the lost tribes some 3,000 Bnei Menashe have returned to their ancient homeland.
