Headlines raged about “Israel’s Land Grab,” “Legalized Land Theft,” and “Settler Action Contradicts International Law.” Obviously these foreign reporters have never read, or do not understand, the law which passed in the Knesset (parliament) by a vote of 60 to 52.
The international community has a fundamental problem with the idea that Israeli law can be applied in the “occupied territories,” charging that this poses an obstacle to the two-state solution. However, this is not a legal position but rather a political one. Those who reject the right of Jews to live in the biblical heartland of Judea and Samaria see this law as land theft, as immoral and anti-Palestinian. Those who maintain such a position also say that the Jews stole the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City.
