At the age of 96, just months before he died, Henry Heimlich used for the second and last time in his life the medical procedure that is today named after him, saving the life of 87-year-old Patty Ris who lived in the same senior citizens’ facility in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2001, Heimlich performed the procedure on a diner at the Banker’s Club in Cincinnati. He estimated that the lives of 100,000 choking victims were spared through the Heimlich Maneuver.
