Adenko Sebhat-Haimovich was assigned to the Magistrates’ Court and Esther Tapeta Gardi will preside in Traffic Court.

The historic appointments were welcomed across the political spectrum as a milestone for the Ethiopian community, which faces problems such as poverty, crime and discrimination. The two women received accolades for their legal work from their former employers.

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked described the appointments as a fulfillment of the vision of the late elder statesman Shimon Peres. Peres was prime minister at  he time of Operation Moses, an airlift which brought 8,000 Ethiopian Jews to Israel in 1984.
