Last year, the sale of cigarettes was banned in the kiosks on the military bases, and soldiers were offered workshops on how to give up smoking.
IDF Chief of Staff Gen. Gadi Eizenkot supports the campaign. Initially, it was feared that there would be negative reactions among the soldiers. However, many have expressed appreciation for the initiative, and some of them have even already succeeded in giving up smoking. Since the beginning of the year, conscripts as well as professional soldiers have the right to individual counseling on giving up smoking and relevant medical treatment. These benefits are now part of the soldiers’ health care package.
