During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, in which the faithful fast from dawn to dusk and neither eat nor drink, many Arab families invited Jewish friends to share in their festive meals at sunset.

The Israeli organization behind this is Sikkui (Chance), which through delicious meals tries to bring both peoples together and give peace a chance. It is a welcome effort after a wave of Palestinian terror that began last September.

“Jews often have a false impression of what Ramadan stands for, and this is what we want to change,” Samira, an Arab who lives on the Mount of Olives, told Israel Today. “While our politicians are fighting, we as human beings need to find ways to get closer.”

Samira and her husband Khaled invited Jewish friends twice a week to share a meal. It was a first, even though the couple had known their guests for years.
