Acts of violence and intimidation against Jews have gotten so bad that a number of European leaders have gone so far as to try to stamp out hostility toward Israel, acknowledging that it is merely a cover for hatred of Jews in general.

Earlier this year, German Chancellor Angela Merkel acknowledged that the flood of Middle East Muslim refugees is fueling this fire. “Anti-Semitism is more widespread than we imagined, and that is why we must act intensively against it,” said Merkel. She called for particular attention to be paid to “young people with a family background from countries where hatred of Israel and the hatred of Jews is becoming widespread.”

Anti-Semitism among the masses has always been a problem. It’s when those sentiments make their way into the upper echelons of power that tragedies like the Holocaust become possible.
