Ronit came from a Middle Eastern Jewish family. Her parents immigrated to Israel from Morocco and she grew up in a poor section of the southern Negev Desert city of Beersheba, where she became a role model for women who believe in themselves.

She began her career as a model. Her first acting role came in 1990 at the age of 26 in Daniel Wachsmann’s film Hameyu’ad (The Appointed). In 1997, she moved to Paris to study theater with Ariane Mnouchkine of Le Théâtre du Soleil fame, the French avant-garde stage ensemble.
