Buried underground for 2,000 years, the debate still rages as to where, or at least where not, the Holy Temple once stood.
Most believe it was beneath what is known today as the Temple Mount, thus the name of the plateau now home to the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa mosques. Others are convinced it was in the City of David, an area just south-east of the Temple Mount that has been under extensive excavations for the past 20 years.
Our recent articles on the location of the Temple generated more discussion and comments among our Israel Today community than any other topic I can remember. Some Christians believe that the Jewish people can now begin to rebuild the Temple without causing another world war, because the Temple was in the City of David, an area not occupied by Muslim mosques.
