It’s good that Israel is largely self-sufficient agriculturally, and this is particularly true during the present coronavirus crisis. There are no shortages of either fruits or vegetables in local supermarkets. “But this,” my friend and farmer Amnon stressed, “is thanks to the Israeli farmers and not the Israeli government, which has neglected agriculture over the years.”
The present situation compels us to greater accountability in regards to our nation’s ability to feed itself.
