Talk about turning the tables. The traditional pattern is for Israel and its Arab neighbors to seek the aid of wealthy America. Now, Israel and its new Arab peace partners are joining forces to assist and comfort destitute residents of the United States capital.

The Israeli and United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassies in the US have come together in a unique collaboration to help homeless people in Washington D.C.

In an extraordinary humanitarian operation, employees of both embassies prepared on Wednesday “winter kits” and “Corona kits” that will be distributed to over 100 homeless people in the US capital.

This is the first cooperation of its kind between the Israeli and UAE diplomatic mission in the US, in the spirit of the Abraham Accords signed on the White House lawns on September 15.

Dana Al Marashi, Head of Cultural Diplomacy at the UAE Embassy, spearheaded her nation’s team.

Tammy Ben Haim, of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, stated that she sees “great symbolism in the fact that the cooperation of the Israeli mission and the United Arab Emirates in the United States is to help the needy.”

“It is a message of mutual accountability and Tikkun Olam [healing the world] that shows that the fruits of peace will affect both the citizens of Israel and the Emirates and many other people in the world,” she added.

“As a diplomat, certain moments stand out, and visiting the UAE Embassy in the US is one of them,” said Ben Haim.
