Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett traveled to the United States last week to meet US President Joe Biden in Washington DC, the first meeting since both leaders took office.
Bennett had two goals in mind with the meeting: cooperation with the Americans regarding possible (military) action against Iran and to improve relations between the Israeli government and the new Democratic government in the US.
Damaged Israel-Democratic Party Relations
Those relations had been damaged for quite some time after former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a number of public spats with ex-President Barack Obama, also a Democrat.
Netanyahu and Obama strongly disagreed on the Palestinian issue and on tackling Iran’s bellicose activities concerning its nuclear program as well as the Islamic Republic’s imperialist behavior.
