Approximately 3,500 years ago, Moses received the two stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments. The tablets were kept in the Ark of the Covenant. They were carried in it during the 40-year journey through the wilderness and later came to rest in the Holy of Holies of the Temple.
Jewish tradition teaches that one tablet contains the commandments governing the relationship between God and man, and the other contains the commandments regulating interpersonal conduct. For the Israelites and Jews, they are binding laws, while non-Jews can also lead a holier and more fulfilling life by observing them.
The Ten Commandments remain a valuable guide today — they are more relevant than ever.
