Over 50 years ago, a Jewish general in India was instrumental in shaping politics in Bangladesh.
With the withdrawal of the British Empire from the Indian subcontinent (1948), it was decided to create two states: India and Pakistan. Pakistan consisted of two parts: Pakistan and East Pakistan (Bangladesh), with the majority of the population being Muslims.
The geographical separation and social differences between the two parts of Pakistan led to tensions and a feeling of discrimination in East Pakistan. Until the 1970s, efforts by East Pakistan to break away and establish a separate state entity increased, with India supporting this tendency against its enemy Pakistan.
In 1971, the social situation in East Pakistan worsened, and Hindus were persecuted by Muslims. The political tension between India and Pakistan escalated into a military conflict. To ensure victory in the war, Pakistan decided to use the Israeli strategy from the Six-Day War of 1967.
