Many see this as part of a broader cooling of relations between Israel and the Trump administration.

Israel is increasingly worried about changes within the US administration and the apparent sidelining of supporters of Israel from the White House and the National Security Council. In recent days, several figures known for their strong pro-Israel stance have been unexpectedly “reassigned”: Merav Sarn, a US and Israeli citizen who was recently appointed head of the Iran and Israel desk at the National Security Council, and Eric Trager, head of the Middle East and North Africa desk—both originally appointed by National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who is also considered staunchly pro-Israel. Waltz himself was previously removed by President Donald Trump and is reportedly set to be nominated as US Ambassador to the United Nations. The dismissals of Sarn and Trager were carried out by Waltz’s successor, Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
