The UN and Western states disproportionately criticize Israel—a political maneuver with biblical echoes.

While other countries around the world largely escape scrutiny, Israel repeatedly finds itself in the spotlight of international criticism. From the United Nations to European governments, the Jewish state is disproportionately condemned—often as a political tool to cover up one’s own shortcomings or to demonstrate moral superiority. Dr. Chen Kertcher, an expert on international conflicts and a lecturer in the Department of Middle East Studies at Ariel University, describes this as a modern form of hypocrisy that was already addressed in the Bible.

Kertcher explains that Israel is deliberately placed at the top of the UN’s criticism list to create an appearance of balance. In reality, the majority of UN attacks target countries of the “Global South”—African, Asian, and Latin American states that are historically disadvantaged. Israel serves as a convenient target, not least against the backdrop of rising global antisemitism.
