His proposal, if adopted, will enable as many as half-a-million army veterans to quickly obtain gun permits. Currently active officers and NCOs would be automatically granted private gun permits after leaving the army. Furthermore, volunteer police officers and paramedics could apply for gun permits, and anyone who has already legally owned a gun for more than 10 years would no longer need to provide proof for why they need such a weapon.
