Jacob “wins” both the birthright and the blessing. And what is a birthright? And what is a blessing?

Before we examine Jacob’s personality and his transformation, I want to challenge you with a question:

Why does God choose Jacob? Why doesn’t God prefer Jacob’s brother Esau. Esau knows how to hunt, and is more responsible and more attentive to his father. So why Jacob, who, as we will soon see, begins quite “crooked”!? After all, this was known in advance. Already during Rebecca’s pregnancy she was told “The older will serve the younger.” Why?

The difficult story in the relationship between Isaac and Rebecca is also the story that comes out between them regarding their love for their two children. Isaac loves Esau, Rebecca loves Jacob. Just reading this makes my heart ache, and I realize that we have many problems ahead of us. Notice who gives the boys their names.

The first is named Esau. And the parents choose his name together: “And the first came forth ruddy, covered with hair; and they called his name, Esau.”

The second child is called Jacob, and only Isaac gives...
