(TPS) In the first crackdown of its kind, Israeli Border Police seized illegal weapons and ammunitions in 63 locations in Israel’s coastal district on Monday morning.

The raids were carried out by the National Guard, a new reserve unit within the Border Police, along with undercover detectives.

The raids follow Saturday night’s theft of around 70,000 bullets and 70 grenades from the Tznobar military base in the Golan.

Bedouins in the Hebron Hills and Negev have managed to steal IDF weapons and equipment on numerous occasions, further fueling a local black market. Many of the weapons find their way to organized crime families and to the Arab sector.

The National Guard’s formation was in response to clashes between Arabs and Jews in mixed Israeli cities during the Gaza conflict of May 2021.
