According to a report by the US news portal Axios, Israel has informed the US government that a current missile exercise by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps could serve as a cover for a potential Iranian attack on Israel. The Israeli military has since been operating at a heightened alert level.
In the assessment of Israeli security circles, Tehran’s military exercises could be used to conceal operational preparations. Against this backdrop, Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir informed the head of US Central Command, Brad Cooper, about Jerusalem’s concerns and urged close operational coordination. Cooper met on Sunday in Tel Aviv with Zamir and other senior officers of the Israeli army.

US intelligence services have so far found no indications of an imminent Iranian attack. Nevertheless, Israeli sources emphasize that they have been particularly vigilant since the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023. The increasing missile movements by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps necessitate heightened readiness.
The issue is also in political focus. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to discuss Iran’s missile buildup as well as possible escalation scenarios during his upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump. The talks are scheduled for December 29 in Florida.
In Jerusalem, it is stressed that this is not about dramatization but about precaution. Military exercises could transition into real attacks at any time. Accordingly, Israel is preparing for various scenarios—in close coordination with the US and with the clear signal that potential threats are being taken seriously.
