Israeli Lawmaker Throws Bible Verses in the Face of Anti-Israel MKs

Israel’s “occupation” didn’t begin 55 years ago, it began 3,055 years ago, notes Amichai Chikli of the coalition’s right-wing Yamina party

Did you know that the Knesset has a “Caucus for Ending the Occupation”?

Well, it does, and they meet every year to complain about Israel’s control of Judea and Samaria, and to issue statements that make it sound as though that situation came about through arbitrary conquest rather than as the result of a defensive war.

Participants are the usual suspects from far-left and Arab-majority political parties who see Israel as illegitimate and Zionism as a form of racism.

This year, though, a member of the right-wing Yamina party (of which Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is head) decided to join and counter the lies.

And Member of Knesset Amichai Chikli not only took a stand for Israel, he did so by throwing biblical truth in the face of his detractors.

“There is a foundational error in the date here, because it’s not 55 years since the occupation began, it’s 3,055 years,” Chikli began his remarks.

He then went on to quote from 2 Samuel 5:4-7, which reads:

David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. At Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and at Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years.

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, “You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame will ward you off”—thinking, “David cannot come in here.” Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.

“This the same stronghold of Zion from which we get Zionism,” continued Chikli. “So 3,055 years ago we see David occupies Jerusalem from the Jebusites….”

The meeting’s chairwoman, MK Aida Touma-Suleiman of the Joint Arab List, interrupted: “So that’s when the occupation began?”

“That’s when we took the stronghold of Zion,” replied Chikli. “And it’s a shame there’s no representative of the Jebusites here to mark the occasion.”
