Israel is a small country with limited human and economic resources. Prolonged military conflict takes a huge toll given that most of the fighting is done by reservists, who must leave families and jobs to defend the nation.
Even so, and even after nearly 600 days of war, most still see it as a sacred duty after the events of October 7, 2023 reminded an increasingly complacent Jewish state that there were still enemies that genuinely sought to snuff out Jewish life entirely.
Israel’s citizen-soldiers, the backbone of the Israel Defense Forces, continue to burn with unyielding resolve to crush Hamas and secure total victory in Gaza, to ensure the events of Oct. 7 are never repeated. Yet, after almost two years of relentless war, these lions of Judah are exhausted, their families strained, and Israel’s resources stretched perilously thin. As the Bible declares, “The people of Israel shall rise like lions” (Numbers 23:24), but even lions tire when the hunt never ends.
